DEVIL’S COURTHOUSE & BRP JANUARY 2020

It was a snowy adventure, but that surely did not stop us! We were in the dead of our winter and decided we needed some hiking action so we took to the Blue Ridge Parkway. We assumed that we would have some “weather” present on the parkway, but never thought we’d have the snow that we encountered. We obviously couldn’t drive up to Devil’s Courthouse (we had originally planned for Art Loeb, but that hike wasn’t in the cards), so we parked by the gate at the Rosman exit and hiked our way to our fun. Max (the very photogenic dog in all the pictures), was an absolute rock star on our hike, he stayed off leash almost the entirety of the day.

We made our way up to the top of the overlook which confirmed all feelings of the day, it was the best decision we could have made. The Parkway basically turns into a cold wind tunnel in the winter and hiking up without a face covering wasn’t the best of choices, but the views were completely worth it. The sky was totally clear, you could see for miles and miles, the cold brisk air made our lungs feel light and I felt full of energy and ambition to keep the day moving along strong. While winter here is sharp and cold, it brings a beauty that you only get to enjoy for a few short months, you just have to push yourself to go take on your surroundings to enjoy it. If you’ve never hiked Devil’s Courthouse then I highly recommend you do, no matter what season it is. It’s a half mile hike right off of a pull off, mostly paved the entire way up.
